EDSA SUMMER CAMP

Azize İpek Yetişti Yeditepe University, Instanbul TURKEY

Dubrovnik is amazing city, in addition, if there were ‘Summer Camp’, it becomes awesome. There were 40 students from different countries. I had wonderful time with them and for sure friendship continues between us forever. On the other hand, the lectures which were presented by the best professors on their departments were so much informative. Organization was planned perfectly, so we spend our time out just for having fun and learning about dentistry. Thank you for everything to Dean of Dentistry Faculty of Zagreb University, all Professors, Antun, Emina, Nives, Maja, Andrija so on... I think i will totally go to next Summer Camp’s which is organized by this team.

Summer camp in Dubrovnik was a wonderful experience for me. We could attend interesting lectures and meet best professors from all over the world. But it was great not only for academic side – we had a chance to live in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, meet our colleges from other countries, find new friends, learn about the culture and have amazing parties. This was my best summer experience and I would definitely recommend it to my friends!

EDSA summer camp in Dubrovnik was all about getting to know great people from all over the world, networking with future colleagues, enjoying beautiful Dubrovnik and experiencing new adventures. It was a week we will never forget!

The experience I earned and the new friendships which started in Dubrovnik will always remember me of the EDSA Summer camp 2013. We attended a lot of really interesting lectures and workshops there, professors from all over the world tried to make every morning as interesting as possible but our afternoons were even more interesting, because the organising committee had done a great job preparing this camp! Even though there were a lot of lectures, we enjoyed a new part of Dubrovnik, which is a really great city, nearly every day. I would advise every student of dental medicine to join this camp, it will improve your knowledge and widen your mind, you will not regret it.

EDSA Summer Camp Dubrovnik August 2013 was extremely well organised, both in terms of the academic and social content! The lectures and workshops were varied, with lecturers from Australia, the UK and of course, Croatia. They were interesting and interactive. Coupled with the great socials (themed nights, boat excursions, plenty of exploring and beach time), this was one of the most wonderful trips I've been on. Met some inspiring dental students from all over Europe and dentists from a variety of fields with one thing in common - great passion and a willingness to teach. The informal atmosphere made such a difference, especially against the backdrop of one of Croatia's most beautiful cities. Definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about going to EDSA Summer Camp!

About Summer Camp

Dubrovnik, a beautiful town on the Croatian seaside, will host the next EDSA SUMMER CAMP from 16th to 22nd of August 2015. The SUMMER CAMP will offer a good opportunity to exchange experience in various aspects of dental care using magnification and discuss the most important topics in dentistry. This would be the fifth summer camp of dental students in Croatia.

In 2011 the idea was to bring together dental students in an international summer camp to generate discussion and understanding across the dental healthcare field and furthermore to develop interdisciplinary skills and awareness of concepts in multidisciplinary and multicultural dental healthcare systems.

Why Dubrovnik?

Having visited Dubrovnik, the Irish writer George Bernard Shaw wrote: “Those who search for paradise on earth should come and see Dubrovnik”.

Unique for its impressive medieval forts, churches, monuments and palaces, Dubrovnik is often called the pearl of the Adriatic. More than a thousand-year old history of Dubrovnik made it a cultural centre of Europe.

Initially a small community, the city flourished in no time and became the seat of the independent Dubrovnik Republic. The Republic mastered the art of seafaring and created a fleet on the South Adriatic which could be compared to the one owned by Venice in the north. History is present in the entire city, which is both a museum and a picturesque stage where cultural heritage and contemporary life meet.

All houses and monuments have a unique value. The Old City is encompassed by medieval walls, which have been preserved in their original form and opened for visitors as Dubrovnik’s major attraction. In 1979 the City was included in UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

Our vision

Bringing students together is an utmost rewarding experience. In our contemporary situation students tend to drift apart form each other and neglect their relationships. THAT’S WHERE EDSA SUMMER CAMP COMES IN. Our summer camp is the ideal place to bond, enjoy, learn and at the same time relax. We feel that the connection between students during summertime is absolutely mandatory, as people then realize the true, relaxed and fun sides of each other, away from all of the stress brought upon us students during our studies.

This is a camp organized by students, FOR students!

Because who can understand our needs better than our “own kind”. Also, our focus was on making new friendships aside replenishing existing ones. With EDSA being a constantly growing European society, the variance of our summer camp attendees expands every year; serving an outstanding example for the saying: “The more the merrier!”. Annually students leave with more and more new international friends and connections.

Cultural difference aids in particular. Every country has its own great habitudes that the students can share with each other, thus spreading their own culture amongst their future colleagues.

So to summarize: bonding, education, fun, friendships and connections are the keywords representing our summer camp!
